Hi, I’m Oliver. Under the label Kuro Yaki, I create unique ceramic art that blend timeless tradition with modern artistry. Kuro Yaki / 黒 焼き is Japanese and translated is says «black» and «fired». In this combination it stands for black pottery or black ceramic. My creations are inspired by the aesthetic of shou sugi ban, the ancient Japanese technique of charring wood to protect it from weathering. In my works I try to translate this visual  impression. Reflecting this tradition, I work exclusively with black clay and black porcelain, crafting pieces that marry minimalist forms with selectively applied glazes.

Each glaze is carefully chosen to achieve a distinctive and, at times, almost mystical appearance when paired with the dark clay body. The interplay between the raw, textured surfaces of the black material and the shimmering or glossy glazed areas transforms with the light, giving every piece a unique and captivating character.

Welcome to my world of dark and mystical black ceramic art.
